FAQ

But now, this is what the LORD says—he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."

Isaiah 43:1

Some questions concerning this work keep rising up. I would like to answer the most frequently asked questions here:

Who stands behind DISRAELIS?

The initiator of DISRAELIS is Ilan Brunner. He lives in Givatayim/ Tel Aviv in Israel. As a holocaust survivor he himself was involved in the German-Jewish history, he considers the DISRAELIS Project a means to bring both nations closer to each other.

Is DISRAELIS an association?

No. DISRAELIS is a private initiative and operates totally on a voluntary basis. Many other people who love Israel donate their efforts to making it a success.

Who are the volunteers that participate in the day to day operation DISRAELIS Project?

Young volunteers from abroad who have devoted months of their life to help Israel.
Journalists who publicize the DISRAELIS Project the world over.
Well wishing institutions that help in finding potential host families.
Israelis who devote their time and efforts in coordinating office work.

Who is eligible as a host family?

Over the years since the DISRAELIS Project came into being people from different backgrounds participated as hosts.
From young families to pensioners, individuals and even whole communities that invited groups of DISRAELIS, all of whom opened their hearts and homes for DISRAELIS.

What costs have to be carried by the hosts?

Host families should invite two DISRAELIS at a time and undertake to cover all the expenses of this invitation. This includes the costs for the flight tickets, board and lodging as well as expenses incurred during the visit.

Obviously that this is not possible in all cases, but maybe there are willing people amongst your family, friends or your community that could help in covering these expenses.

Do the foreign hosts have to live in a special region or do they have to provide special housing for the DISRAELIS in order to participate in this program?

The DISRAELIS that I will choose for you are independent and do not need any direct medical care. Still some of the people are disabled and possibly not able to climb many stairs.
But when you decide to invite DISRAELIS I will ask you for detailed information about yourself, house and plans and take all this information in consideration while choosing your special DISRAELIS guests.

Does the DISRAELIS Project have a certain religious orientation?

No. All DISRAELIS are Jewish and live the faith of their forefathers in many different ways. At the same time almost host families are Christians of different denominations. Another goal of DISRAELIS the Project is to enable heartfelt mutual conversations and not to persuade each other of a certain religious belief.

How can I help?

As hosts you can invite two or more DISRAELIS to your homes, encourage your friends and relatives to do the same or alternatively take over the travel expenses of such an invitation.
Donations will be gladly accepted from those of you who are unable to host DISRAELIS in your homes.
